The New Mulatu Astatke's
Written by Joost van der Wiel

Working on music for a film is one of the things I love most. It still amazes me how much impact a single tone can have on an image. Let alone the dazzling tones of vibrant Ethiopian music!

When I first found out about the legendary Ethiopiques series I was.. how shall I put it? Extatic? Mind-Bombed? The number of tracks absolutely handmade for film music is infinite. I don't know, but it even could be because of this music that I wanted to make a film in Ethiopia. So, as you would expect, I choose not to use it.

What I want to express with this film is first and foremost is that there are so many parallels between Ethiopians, the Dutch and whatever nationality you can think of. So choosing music that can be recognized as Ethiopian and nothing else then Ethiopian didn't feel right for this film. That's where Mattijs de Regt and Jorge San Martin show up. Talented composers as they are, they will work on a original, fresh soundtrack for One Size Fits All; Inspired by Ethiopia's rich musical history and the story of the film.

Very soon we will have a short first sample of it on the website!

Amharantastic!
Written by Joost van der Wiel

I must have been asked the same question about 400 times lately: "So, Joost, is the Ethiopian film finished yet?". My answers has 'evolutionized' in the last three months from Soon! to I'll let you know, to I'm having some problems to a simple quick shake with the head. Why? Remember the last message on this website? We were looking for a translator, and that proved to be a very, very, very tough job.

And isn't it so that the answer is always closer then you think? Our answer was a good friend of Mikael 'Mister Addis' Ayele: Yewondwossen Tesfaye. Should I mention his company? Pronto Data Service Management, the best address in Addis for translations? No, I'd better not huh..

Positive about this delay is that the crew focused on new, exciting projects. For example, at this moment Luc is on his way to Mali. By car. All the way from his doorstep in Utrecht to Bamako. As a result we can have a new and fresh look at the images of One Size Fits All as we start the editing and post-production process. My new answer to the 401st time I get the same question: "The next time you ask it will be, and it's getting goooood!".

One Size Fits All: Looking for a translator

After a succesful month of shooting in Addis Ababa, the editing of documentary One Size Fits All has started. All smooth so far. There’s one problem, though… Director Joost van der Wiel’s Amharic sucks big time!

Therefore the OSFA-crew is looking for a helping hand. Someone who can translate about seven hours of footage from Amharic to English or Dutch. Don’t let the seven hours scare you away, we are (almost) equally happy with one translated hour. But in the end

It's a wrap!

After five exhilarating weeks of shooting the magic words have been heard on the streets of Addis Ababa: "It's a wrap!".

While the carefull process of editing starts we wouldn't want to exclude you of all the amazing images we collected. Click here to have a peak at some still images from the film. Enjoy!

Abebe and Asternake - OSFA running stars

This week the One Size Fits All (OSFA) crew went to the mountains just outside of Addis Ababa to film teenage running stars Abebe and Asternake.

These young athletes come from a small village near the Ethiopian capital and train like maniacs. They get up early every morning to either run in the mountains or work on their stamina on the stairs of Meskel Square. All this to achieve their one big goal: becoming the new Kenenisa Bekele or Haile Gebrselassie.
